  4. because it was inconvenient to manage. But given intense and 
  5. exaggerated action, ‚Äúthe disturbance produced in the whole 
  6. organism or in a special function‚Äù is equally observable.

  8.      Man the tool-making animal, whether in speech or in 
  9. writing or in radio, has long been engaged in extending one or 
  10. another of his sense organs in such a manner as to disturb all 
  11. of his other senses and faculties. But having made these 
  12. experiments, men have consistently omitted to follow them 
  13. with observations.
